FAQ
-
How does keyswitch operation work?
A keyswitch is the simplest and most affordable way to operate a roller garage door. You insert the key into the wall mounted switch, twist it, and hold it in position. The door moves while you hold the key in place, and stops the moment you let go. There is no remote, no battery, and no receiver to maintain. It is the cheapest of the three operation types we offer; the next two upgrade tiers (hardwired remote and wireless remote) are described in the Upgrade section above.
-
Can I add remote control later?
Yes. You can upgrade to either the hardwired or wireless safety edge kit at any point. Most customers add it at order time so it is fitted from day one, but it can also be retrofitted.
-
What is the difference between the hardwired and wireless safety edge kits?
Both detect obstructions and auto reverse the door. The hardwired kit runs a cable from the safety edge to the receiver box. The wireless kit uses a battery powered transmitter on the bottom rail of the door to talk to the receiver, so there is no trailing cable; it also includes a courtesy light on the receiver box. The wireless kit is £45 more than the hardwired kit.
-
Do I need a safety edge for remote operation?
Yes. To be fully automatic and remote controlled in line with the machinery directive, the door needs a safety edge. That is why the safety edge is bundled into both upgrade kits.
-
What is the External Manual Override Kit for?
It lets you unlock and operate the door from outside when there is no other way into the garage, for example when there is no internal door from the house.
-
What sizes can I order?
The Roll 55 Keyswitch Control is made to measure between 1200 mm and 2500 mm wide (including guide runners) and up to 2400 mm tall (including the standard 205 mm top box). Greater height is available with the optional 250 mm top box.
