Sectional Garage Doors

How to Measure

Measure in millimetres (mm), double-check each measurement, and take photos of the opening and inside of the garage. If anything looks unusual (low headroom, beams, pipes, sloping ceilings), a technical survey is recommended.

1) Opening width (brick-to-brick)

Measure the clear opening width at the narrowest point. Take a second measurement higher up in case the opening is out of square.

  • Record the smallest measurement.
  • Note any frame or profile that reduces the clear opening.
  • If measuring between piers, also note pier thickness and finish.

2) Opening height (floor-to-lintel)

Measure from the finished floor to the underside of the lintel across the opening.

  • Check left, centre and right.
  • Record the smallest measurement.
  • Tell us if the floor slopes up/down at the threshold.

3) Headroom

The distance from the top of the opening to the lowest ceiling obstruction (ceiling, beams, pipes).

4) Sideroom

Space to the left and right inside the garage for tracks, frame and fixings.

5) Backroom

The depth inside the garage needed for the horizontal tracks and (if automated) the operator rail.

Our calculator uses your opening width and height to match the nearest Premier pricing band and gives you an instant estimate. Track type and fitting feasibility can depend on headroom/sideroom/backroom, so we’ll confirm everything during a technical check.
