Garage Door Installation
We supply garage doors on a delivered basis. Doors ordered through this website are not fitted by us: your door arrives at your address, and installation is then arranged by you. This page explains what you receive with the door, what makes fitting easier, and when we strongly recommend using a professional.
What You Receive with Your Door
Every door we sell is made by Garador or Wisniowski, and each manufacturer supplies full fitting instructions with the door. These cover the fixings, frame assembly where relevant, and the correct sequence for installing and adjusting the door. If you would like to read the manufacturer fitting instructions before you buy, contact us and we will send them over so you can judge the job for yourself.
Factory Pre-Framed Doors
Many side hinged and up and over doors come factory pre-framed, which simplifies fitting considerably: the door arrives already hung in its frame, so on site the work is largely a matter of fixing the framed unit into the opening and making the final adjustments. Where a door is supplied pre-framed, this is stated on the product page, and your written quote confirms the exact specification.
Do You Need a Professional Fitter?
We recommend installation by a competent professional fitter for all of our doors, and particularly for:
- Sprung doors. Doors with sprung mechanisms need correct tensioning and adjustment to operate safely and smoothly, so this work is best left to someone experienced with garage door hardware.
- Electric doors. Electrically operated doors, including roller and sectional doors with operators, involve both mechanical installation and an electrical connection.
A good fitter will also check the opening, square the frame and set the door up properly, which protects the smooth running of the door over its life.
Electrical Work
Any electrical work required for an electrically operated door must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Please do not attempt mains wiring yourself.
Before You Order
Two things make installation day go smoothly:
- Measure correctly. Measure the structural opening: brick to brick for width and floor to lintel for height. Our measurement guide walks you through it, and the exact made up size is confirmed in your written quote.
- Read the instructions first. Ask us for the manufacturer fitting instructions before you buy, so you or your fitter know exactly what the job involves.
