Side Hinged Garage Doors FAQ

Honest answers to the questions we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it through the quote form and we will write the answer in.

Buying and pricing

How are the prices on this site calculated?

The "From £X" price on each product page is the lowest configuration of that door (smallest standard size, base finish, no upgrades). The exact price for your build is confirmed when we send your quote.

Is the price per leaf or per door?

Per door (the complete assembly). For a double leaf door that means both leaves, the steel frame, hinges, locks, weather seals and standard handle.

Are there any hidden costs?

Delivery is charged separately and depends on your postcode. Fitting is optional and quoted by your local installer. VAT is included on the listed prices.

Lead time and fulfilment

How long until my door arrives?

Garador standard finishes: typically 4-5 weeks from order. Garador custom RAL or factory paint: 6-8 weeks. Wisniowski: 5-7 weeks. We confirm a build date in writing once the order is placed.

Who actually makes and ships the door?

The manufacturer (Garador or Wisniowski) builds the door to your spec at their factory. They ship it directly to the address you give us, in their own livery, with our paperwork included. We handle the order management and any aftersales contact.

Can I track the build?

Yes. We send you the order acknowledgement, the build slot date and the dispatch confirmation as they happen.

Choosing the right door

Single leaf or double leaf?

Single leaf is cheaper and easier to use day to day; double leaf gives you a wider clear opening when both leaves are folded back. See the how to measure guide for the rule of thumb by opening width.

Steel, timber or GRP?

Steel is the most affordable, lowest maintenance and toughest against accidental knocks; it can dent under a hard impact. Timber gives the warmest look but needs a coat of stain or paint every 3-5 years to stay watertight. GRP is the best of both: warmth of woodgrain texture with the maintenance of steel, but it is the most expensive material and impact resistance is between steel and timber.

Wisniowski vs Garador?

Wisniowski is a Polish manufacturer with a thermally broken steel construction (DoorPro 60, 70 and DoorTherm 86 ranges). It is the strongest insulation choice in our line-up. Garador is a British manufacturer with the broadest material range (steel, timber, GRP) and the most traditional UK panel designs. If you want maximum thermal performance, choose Wisniowski. If you want a traditional British style or solid timber, choose Garador.

Fitting and installation

Do you fit the door?

Not directly. We can recommend an installer in your area, or you can use your own fitter. The doors are pre-framed which means they are designed to be installed by any competent joiner or door fitter; no manufacturer-specific certification is required.

Can I fit it myself?

If you are confident with a level, a hammer drill and a tape measure, yes. The door arrives as a pre-assembled frame with the leaves already hung. The job is fixing the frame square inside the brick opening (8 fixings per side typically), connecting the lock keep, and sealing around the outside.

What is the in-between fixing rule?

Garador frames must be fixed inside the brick opening, not behind the brickwork (a "behind opening" fit). The frame needs solid brick or block on all four sides to fix into. If your opening has a steel lintel above and no rebate, mention it on the quote.

Warranty, returns and aftersales

What is the warranty?

Garador: 5 year warranty against manufacturing defects on steel and GRP, 2 years on timber doors. Wisniowski: 5 years on the panel, 2 years on hardware. We hold copies of both warranty documents and will pursue any claim with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Can I cancel or return the door?

Made to measure orders cannot be cancelled once production has started. There is usually a 24-48 hour window after you confirm the order before the build slot is locked in; we will tell you exactly when that window closes for your specific order. After that point, the door is yours.

What if the door is damaged on arrival?

Refuse delivery, take photographs, and call us the same day. The manufacturer is responsible for transit damage and will rebuild or replace at no cost. Damage discovered after delivery has been signed for is harder to claim, so always inspect the panels through the wrapping before you sign.

Delivery

Do you deliver UK-wide?

Yes. Mainland UK is standard. Highlands, islands and Northern Ireland are available with a postcode surcharge confirmed at quote time.

Do I need to be home?

Yes. The door is heavy, signature is required and the driver will not unwrap or position the door for you. Have a clear path from the kerb to your storage spot before the delivery slot.
